Wayne Rooney believes Marcus Rashford is one of four players Manchester United need to build their team around as he backed the England international to have an improved season next term
Ralf Rangnick started Rashford on the bench for United's match against Leicester on Saturday evening, selecting Bruno Fernandes to lead the attack instead. That decision from the interim boss is understood to have baffled some of United's players.
Rashford was eventually brought on from the bench in the second-half, but Rangnick's snub was yet another low point in a forgettable season for the forward. Rashford has scored just five goals across all competitions this campaign.

While Rashford has looked devoid of confidence, Rooney believes the next United manager could build around him, among others. Rooney, speaking on Monday night, backed Rashford to put this miserable season behind him. “I think, as we said, they’ve got good young players," Rooney told Sky Sports when asked about United's rebuild.
"I think [Jadon] Sancho will be better next year, Marcus will be better next year. They’ve got good young players. I think Jesse Lingard should be playing for them because he brings energy, brings quality. Scott McTominay’s done well.
"So they do have some good young players, you just have to get some confidence and get them believing that they’re good players and perform at the best level. And then, obviously, whoever the new manager is, I’m sure he’ll bring his own players in and build that through."
