Wayne Rooney makes title prediction as Man Utd icon admits Arsenal and Man City 'hope'

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has weighed in on the Premier League title race, giving his prediction on who will lift the trophy at the end of the season. Arsenal currently lead the way, sitting eight points clear of rivals Manchester City with an extra game played.

Their fate currently rests in their hands, with ten games to go to write themselves into the history books under Mikel Arteta. Pep Guardiola has the challenge of overcoming that gap, while also hunting down trophies in other competitions that could prove to be a difficult distraction.

"I don’t know," Arteta said earlier this month on whether his side are title favourites. "We discuss what we discuss internally to be really humble, to work on the next training session and try to be better every day. That’s our focus, there’s still a huge part of the season to be played."

Only time will tell which team will come out on top, but people are getting their final predictions in before the football is back underway. One star who has got involved is Rooney, who claims he hopes that the Gunners can get over the line, but isn't so sure the table will end that way.

The DC United coach told CNN: "I hope Arsenal do win it [but] I think City will pip them to it. It’s going to be intriguing. I think because Arsenal have not been in this position for a long time, and it can be a lot of pressure to go with that.

"Once you start getting into the last 10 games of the season that’s when the real pressure starts. And so I’m really interested to see if they can sustain what they’ve been doing all season."
