Wayne Rooney documentary release date on Amazon Prime Video and what to expect

A new documentary about the life of Wayne Rooney promises to be a tell-all of the scandals he faced in his football career on and off the pitch - including reports of him cheating on his wife, Coleen.

The Prime Video programme - simply called 'Rooney' - is highly anticipated by fans and footballers alike.

Rooney said at the premiere of the documentary on Wednesday (February 9) that he opened up about difficult times in the film.

Wayne Rooney's records and trophies

The father of four played for Manchester United after being signed to the team in 2004 from Everton in a deal worth an initial £20 million, with £7 million in contingency payments.

It was in Euro 2004 that he burst onto the international scene playing for England. But despite high hopes initially, he arguably never reached his potential with the national team.

He went on to become United's all-time leading goal scorer - with 253 goals - the only player to score 250 goals for the Red Devils. Rooney broke Old Trafford legend Bobby Charlton's record to secure the milestone in January 2017.

The striker, who converted to play in a deeper midfield role in the latter stages of his career, also captained United.

He won every possible trophy while at the club - 13 in total - including five Premier League titles, four League Cups, as well as the FA Cup, Europa League, Club World Cup and Champions League (all once).

Rooney left United in July 2017 to return to boyhood club Everton, before spells at DC United in the USA and Derby County.

The player retired in 2021 and has admitted to having an alcohol issue.
