Wayne Rooney has shutdown speculation linking him to the Everton manager's job.
The current D.C. United head coach, who is a boyhood Everton fan, enjoyed two spells at Goodison Park during his playing career. A memorable effort against Arsenal saw him open his Premier League goal account.
After leaving for Manchester United back in 2004, he returned to the Blues in 2017, but lasted just one season before moving to MLS and linking up with D.C. United. Rooney was heavily linked with another emotional return to Goodison following Rafa Benitez's sacking as manager at the start of last year.

However, he chose to remain at Derby County, with Frank Lampard appointed as the Spaniard’s replacement. But, just under a year into the job, Lampard finds himself under pressure at Goodison as his side sits 18th in the Premier League table, facing yet another relegation battle this season.
Speaking in the week, Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri came out and publicly backed his manager to turn things around. And now Rooney has claimed it would be "unfair" to discuss the possibility of taking charge of the Blues.
“It was the same last time when Benitez left the club but I think it would be very unfair for me to speak about Everton,” he told the Daily Telegraph.
“Obviously Frank Lampard is the manager, Moshiri has come out backing him. Frank’s a former team-mate of mine so it would be very unfair if I start speaking about Everton and that role, because Frank is very much still the manager.”
