Wayne Lineker's former business goes into liquidation with almost £100,000 of debt

A business formerly owned by Wayne Lineker has gone into liquidation.

The Celebs Go Dating star's former company Duane International Ltd, named after his son, has been wound up.

Paperwork on Companies House confirms that the business owes almost £100,000.

It owes debts including £9,530 to employees, £72,430 to trade and expense creditors and £17,500 to banks and institutions, with an estimated total deficiency of £99,120.

Wayne, 58, had stepped down from the role of director in August 2020.

The special resolution for winding up states: "That is has been proved to the satisfaction of this meeting that the company cannot by reason of its liabilities continue its business and that it is advisable to wind up the same accordingly that the company be wound up voluntarily."

It was signed by Duane.

The company's official status is "liquidation".

Its nature of business is described as licensed clubs, public houses and bars, public relations and communications activities, and management consultancy activities other than financial management.

It was previously known as Linekers (UK) Ltd before the father and son changed its name last year.

Duane told the Mirror that the business was a holding company for himself, and that his father had only helped to set it up, and that it had nothing to do with Wayne's bars.

Duane said: "Unfortunately due to the economic crisis bought on by the Covid pandemic like many much larger much more famous companies than mine the company had to go into liquidation.

"It is a great shame and not a decision I took lightly."

Wayne, the brother of former footballer Gary Lineker, also owns nightclubs in Ibiza, which were forced to close last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wayne's O Beach Ibiza is also facing an £8.5million damages claim in the English courts after former professional footballer Jonathan Hutchinson was left paralysed in a swimming pool fall.

He had been found floating in the pool at the club in San Antonio in 2016.

Lawyers for the club had argued that Hutchinson's right to sue was invalidated as he'd entered a VIP area before the accident when he had only purchased a general access ticket.

Their argument was dismissed by Judge Mrs Justice Andrews, who cleared Hutchinson to sue for millions in damages.

Judge Andrews said: "A contractual duty to take reasonable care for the health and safety of ordinary members of a club using its swimming pool cannot depend on which side of the pool they happened to be standing on immediately before they entered the water.

"In those circumstances, it is irrelevant whether Mr Hutchinson was in the VIP area before he had his accident and if so, whether he was invited there by someone else."

The 37-year-old is now tetraplegic, with the accident causing "impaired ability to move his shoulders, elbows, wrists and otherwise total paralysis of his body".
