Wayne Brady wants you to know he’s not a prude. The “Let’s Make A Deal” host just needed a few minutes to get used to the nudity.
The 50-year-old actor, who made a name for himself on “Whose Line is it Anyway?,” co-stars in Showtime’s “American Gigolo,” which premiered Friday, as Lorenzo, best friend to Jon Bernthal’s Julian Kaye, freed after 15 years behind bars for a murder he didn’t commit.
“We’re having a business conversation…poolside and you look around and everybody’s naked. Things are just swinging everywhere, left and right,” Brady, who also starred in “Kinky Boots” on Broadway, told the Daily News.
“I had to actually ask, because I have not been worldly enough, to be like, ‘really? Do people really have homes where everybody by the pool is butt-a— naked and running around like this?’”
But in “American Gigolo,” where most of its characters, including Lorenzo and Julian, are or were sex workers, the nudity made sense.
“We can delve into the world of sex work and make it so matter of fact, rather than doing it for the sake of doing it. No, this is just the world,” Brady said.
Brady even compared his show to “Game of Thrones,” the HBO fantasy series rife with nudity and sex scenes.
“I love ‘Game of Thrones.’ I read all of the books and I used my imagination, but when I started watching the show, it was a little much for me!” the actor told The News. “The argument is ‘no, it’s being faithful.’ Yeah, but every single scene? Do it where it makes sense.”
In “American Gigolo,” Brady said, the nudity is “true to the storytelling.”
