Watsonians coach Nikki Walker expecting tough test against Stirling Wolves

Champions Watsonians are the only remaining unbeaten team in this season’s Super Series, and they know they face a tough fight to preserve that status when they play Stirling Wolves at Bridgehaugh.

The Wolves are on a high after scoring 92 points last week against the Future XV, and Watsonians coach Nikki Walker, whose team did not play last week, expects a demanding evening.

"Going to Bridgehaugh is always a tough challenge, and we have had some very good matches together in the short history of Super Series rugby," he said. "Our players have had a weekend off and the opportunity to recover, and there has been a real lift in training intensity and accuracy from where we were in week one to three.  There is a full understanding by all that this progress will have to be taken into Friday night to get anything out of this game.”

By the same token, Wolves head coach Eddie Pollock knows that his players will also have a game on their hands. "Everyone is well aware of the huge challenge they [Watsonians]  will bring in terms of physicality and rugby nuance. They have experience in key positions and have had a great start to the season. The squad is very much looking forward to another exciting game in front of a vociferous home crowd."

Like the Wolves, Boroughmuir Bears are also out to make it two wins on the bounce this evening, when they welcome the Ayrshire Bulls to Meggetland. The Bulls are top of the table by a point, having played a game more than Watsonians, and have won three games in a row since being defeated by the Myreside club in the opening weekend of the tournament.

Round five will be completed tomorrow, when the Future XV visit Heriot’s.
