Ford's Cameron Waters is eager to build on recent impressive results as he plots a big second half of the 2022 Supercars championship.

Waters heads to this weekend's SuperSprint event at Tailem Bend third on the standings, having finished on the podium in seven of the past eight races.

A pair of third-place finishes in Townsville earlier this month came after posting two race wins from three starts at Winton and a victory in one of the three races at Darwin.

While the Tickford Racing star remains 330 points adrift of championship leader Shane van Gisbergen, he's confident his upswing in form indicates further success lies ahead.

"We're heading in a good direction as a team," Waters said.

"My car's been running at the front the last few rounds which has been awesome, but the other guys have had good runs as well and having JC (James Courtney) right with me in Townsville was really good for team points.

"We're making good progress with the cars and feel we can continue to be competitive, so I'm looking forward to the weekend."

Waters will equal Ford legend Allan Moffat by celebrating his 100th round start in Supercars this weekend.

The 27-year-old has also enjoyed good results at The Bend Motorsport Park, picking up a win in each of the previous two seasons at the South Australian venue.

"We've been pretty strong at The Bend the last couple of years, so I'm definitely excited to be heading back there this weekend," he said.

Van Gisbergen heads into this weekend's event with a 274-point championship lead from Shell V-Power's Anton De Pasquale, with the pair to resume hostilities after a last-lap run-in at Townsville where the Holden star claimed a race win when De Pasquale copped a five-second penalty for the incident.

This weekend's event begins on Saturday with a 24-lap race before two more 24-lap races on Sunday.
