Waterford are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Danny Searle.
The Englishman has paid the price for a slow league start that sees the pre-season promotion favourites sitting fifth and 10 points behind leaders Galway United.
A Blues statement read: “Waterford Football Club can confirm Danny Searle has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.
“Everyone at Waterford FC would like to place on record their thanks to Danny for his hard work and professionalism during his time at the club.
“The search for his replacement will begin immediately, with Brian Murphy taking charge of the first team in the interim period.”
Murphy is the club’s former goalkeeper who joined the coaching staff in January after announcing his retirement. He will be in charge for Friday’s home league game against Finn Harps.
Searle, 44, landed the Waterford job last summer and reached the relegation-promotion playoff final against UCD, but lost to the Students.
But Waterford handed the ex-Aldershot boss a new ‘long-term’ contract in November ahead of this season, where the Blues were favourites to win the First Division.
After axing Searle this morning, Waterford immediately posted a 'job vacancy' ad on their website and said they are seeking 'a highly motivated Head Coach to lead the team to promotion in the upcoming season'.
It continued: "The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in developing and implementing winning strategies and tactics, as well as the ability to inspire and motivate players to achieve their full potential.
"Waterford FC offer the highest in class in facilities, technical support, budget and resources to ensure the best possible chance of success.
