Water supply restored to 6500 homes in Scottish city after mains pipe burst

WATER supplies have been restored to around 6500 homes after engineers worked to repair a burst “strategic” main.

Scottish Water said a “small number” of customers in the southside of Glasgow are still experiencing disruption and it is working to resolve remaining issues.

Customers in the G41, G42, G43, G44 postcodes were affected by the burst, which happened late on Saturday afternoon.

Photos and videos on social media showed flooding on some streets in the area, and road closures were put in place.

Engineers worked through the night to carry out repairs and around 6500 customers had their water supply restored by lunchtime on Sunday.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “This is a key asset supplying many thousands of homes in the city and our teams have worked as quickly as possible to restore supply.

“By making complex adjustments to our network we were quickly able to isolate and bypass the damaged section to allow the repair to be carried out.

“The vast majority of customers have now had their supply restored and we are making every effort to do the same for a small number of customers who are still experiencing issues.

“We are acutely aware of how many customers have been inconvenienced and how important it was to restore their supply as quickly as possible.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been affected for their patience and understanding.”

Pollokshaws Road was closed in both directions with local diversions in place on Sunday afternoon as work on the damaged section of the pipe continued.

Scottish Water said if customers experience discoloured water, they should run the cold water tap in their kitchen at half pressure until it runs clear.
