'Watch your language bro' - Virgil van Dijk sent blunt warning to Cody Gakpo after Liverpool interview error

Cody Gakpo was forced to apologise after an x-rated comment during an interview with Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk.

The Holland striker arrived on Merseyside during the January transfer window as the Reds gazumped their fierce rivals Manchester United to the signature of the PSV Eindhoven captain. Gakpo has enjoyed a positive opening four months at Anfield and is a goal shy of breaking into double figures in the Premier League.

After his shock arrival at the turn of the year, it appears that the 24-year-old is acclimatising to life in the North West with the help of Dutch international teammate, Van Dijk. However, he is still coming to terms with the do's and don'ts of interviews on British shores.

In an interview with BBC Sport for their Football Focus programme, the Dutch duo were alongside Liam MacDevitt for a version of 'Honesty Cards'. They were both asked a number of questions ranging from goosebumps moments throughout their career to who takes the most selfies in the dressing room.

When the pair were asked who was the best in their finishing drills, Gakpo and Van Dijk were both confident in their ability as the former suggested he'd be in the top three. Meanwhile, the centre-back admitted he would be in the top five - a surprising admission as Reds haven't seen much of the defender's shooting capabilities which he displayed at Celtic.

However, Gakpo was forced to apologise for his x-rated slip-up. Describing the drill, Van Dijk said: "We have a shooting drill from the side that you have to get [touch] into the D.

"Depends on the day really. Some days with a s*** touch and you're out," the 24-year-old added. But his senior was quick to point out the mishap saying: "Oh watch your language bro, it's BBC here."

Apologising, Gakpo said: "Ah, you cannot say this? I'm sorry."
