Watch the rare £500,000 Aston Martin DB5 that's up for auction

THIS beautiful 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is set to fetch up to £500,000 and be one of the stars of an upcoming classic car auction.

It was subject to a loving, seven-year restoration from 1989 to 1996 but retains its chassis and engine numbers plus a factory-fitted ZF five-speed manual gearbox.

It is one of a mere 898 DB5 fixed-heads ever made and within the first 200 to roll out of the famous British luxury sports car brand’s Newport Pagnell factory in Buckinghamshire.

More than £60,000 has recently been invested and the DB5, finished in Dubonnet Rosso complemented by its original Fawn leather interior, is ready to be admired and enjoyed.

It has undergone a fresh engine overhaul to 4.2-litre unleaded petrol specification by a well-respected marque specialist and was recently fitted with a handling kit as part of a suspension and brakes overhaul.

There’s also an interesting James Bond movie connection – the prototype DB5 that featured in Goldfinger was resprayed from Dubonnet Rosso to Silver Birch for its screen role.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but the Road Record team thinks it looks sensational with its dark-red paintjob.

The sale car is coming up for grabs with specialist auctioneers H&H Classics at their event at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on March 16. Go to www.handh.co.uk to find out more.
