Thailand’s Prime Minister on Friday visited the daycare center in the country’s northeast region to pay respect to the dozens of children and others who were killed there the day before.
Prayuth Chan-ocha offered flowers and prayed outside the center in Nongbua Lamphu province, the day after a fired police officer attacked the center, killing at least 36 people.
Bouquets of white roses and carnations lined the wall outside the day care, along with five tiny juice boxes and bags of corn chips left next to a stuffed animal placed in tribute to the slain children at the makeshift memorial.
Prayuth stopped and added a bouquet before moving on to meet with relatives of the victims. He also handed out compensation checks for the families.
The entire country reeled in the wake of Thursday’s grisly attack in a small town nestled among rice paddies in one of the nation’s poorest regions.
