While Johnny Jonhson III might be a longshot to make the Houston Texans’ final 53-man roster, he should be a favorite to land on the practice squad.
If anything, his latest play might have sealed him one of the 16 spots for 2024.
Johnson capped off a promising preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams with a 10-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to extend Houston’s lead by eight.
Johnson finished his afternoon with two catches for 28 yards, including a pickup of 18 earlier in the drive.

Johnson spent last season on the practice but was elevated for two games as a depth option for C.J. Stroud. He has an understanding of the offense after spending last year as a target in practice for Stroud to work with en route to winning a division title for the first time in four years.
Houston might feel content with its starting six. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell didn’t play on Saturday, meaning they’ve secured a roster spot. The same goes for likely John Metchie III and Robert Woods. Noah Brown could start the season on the injured reserve after missing the past three weeks of practice.

If anything, the Texans might turn to Steven Sims and Xavier Hutchinson for the last two spots, meaning Johnson’s the next in line to take over on the practice squad.
