Houston Texans rookie receiver John Metchie continued his rehabilitation from a torn ACL during organized team activities Wednesday at Houston Methodist Training Center.
The second-round pick from Alabama went through light drills while taking instruction from receivers coach and pass game coordinator Ben McDaniels — according to video posted to Twitter by Daniel Gotera from KHOU-TV.
During rookie minicamp on May 13, coach Lovie Smith indicated that Metchie wasn’t 100%, but he would be ready to go after the offseason program.
“He’s no 100 percent yet, but in time he will be,” Smith said. “I don’t have that timetable set yet, but in the upcoming weeks we’ll be able to tell that a little bit more. For us, he is going to play this year. It’s all, as much as anything, about the mental preparation, them catching up, getting in the playbook.”
Metchie caught 96 passes for 1,142 and eight touchdowns through 13 games with Alabama in 2021.
