WATCH: Striking Lanarkshire binmen sing Eminem hit in bid to make COSLA pay up

Striking binmen have channelled their inner Eminem by chanting their version of one of the rapper's most famous tunes in protest over fairer pay.

Dozens of refuse staff lined Forrest Street in Blantyre, outside South Lanarkshire Council's waste services headquarters, to bang their drum and chant about their right to a better pay deal.

And those on the picket line did their best to show COSLA chiefs that they mean business by singing the words of the American rap artists song 'Without Me.'

In a video sent to Lanarkshire Live the group of binmen start by shouting "Hold" three times in what could be a scene from Mel Gibson's Braveheart.

They then make their own slant on the rapper's tune singing: "Well this looks like a job for me, so everybody, just follow me 'cause we need a little, controversy 'cause the bins won't empty without me!"

The union members - from Unite, GMB and Unison - are also proudly waving their flags and banners and encouraging motorists to beep and back them in their stance against the voice of local government in Scotland.

One member was even dressed in a giant rat costume to hammer home the potential environmental and health impact of leaving bins to overflow.

The staff will take to the picket line again tomorrow and Wednesday, August 30.

Further strike action is planned on Wednesday, September 7, through to Friday, September 9, unless a new, better deal is brought to the table in the coming days.

Unite Shop steward John Paul McAuley, a refuse collector with SLC, told Lanarkshire Live : ""Enough is enough.

"It's time for the Scottish Government to step up and ensure these workers are paid what they deserve."
