A skyscraper under construction collapsed in Bangkok on Friday after a powerful 7.7 earthquake rocked Thailand and Myanmar, killing at least 150 people.

Images posted on social media show the building reduced to debris in a matter of seconds, with construction workers fleeing as a swift cloud of smoke approaches them.

Other videos show water falling from rooftop pools and bridges collapsing as a result of the quake.

The full extent of the earthquake's impact will likely not be known for days as damages are evaluated. "The death toll and injuries are expected to rise," said the head of the country's military government, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing. Information in the country going through a bloody civil war is severely limited.

The earthquake's epicenter took place near Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city. There was also a 6.4 aftershock. Train tracks have been bent and roads completely destroyed by the episode as well.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said resources are being mobilized to help Myanmar, one of the poorest of the world.
