The central defender signed for the St Andrew's outfit last summer before he was joined down south by fellow Ranger Dowell, who completed a mid-season loan switch after being deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox.

The pair combined to break the deadlock for Birmingham against Shrewsbury:

Birmingham sit nine points clear of Wrexham at the top of English League One, with two games in hand.

They remain in pole position to win the third-tier and resultantly gain promotion back to the Championship.

Both Dowell and Davies have been key for the side this season.

Boss Chris Davies hailed their impact yesterday. He said [Record]: "Ben's been excellent for us. He's been calm, assured, good leadership qualities. But from set-pieces, we need to score more goals. I think it was a great ball from Kieran.

"He's added to our set-piece threat with his quality of delivery. For Ben, nice finish and you can see what it meant to him."

Birmingham make the trip to face Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening as they continue their promotion push.
