The New England Patriots’ top-two rookies connected on one of the best plays of Day 3 training camp practice on Friday.
It was initially a shaky day for the offense, and then out of nowhere, Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye dropped back and uncorked a beautiful deep ball downfield, which was secured into the leaping arms of rookie wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk.
New England is hoping the play was a sign of things to come for an offense that has consistently struggled to stretch the field. Polk is steadily looking like a steal in the second round.
Plays like this one prove he was probably better than most thought he would be coming out of college.

These kinds of plays are tough to come by against an elite Patriots defense. There are playmakers up and down the depth chart for that unit, and Maye is going to have his work cut out to beat them on the practice field.
Granted, it’s always better when having an offensive weapon like Polk, who could emerge as a top contributor right out of the gates. Deep connections like this one could be a common sight when Maye and Polk finally hit their stride.
