Newcastle were stunned by Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, as Justin Kluivert netted a hattrick to emphatically end the Magpies nine game win streak – see below for Newcastle vs Bournemouth highlights.
Bournemouth Stun Newcastle
Despite Newcastle’s unstoppable form lately it was Bournemouth who took the lead early on, with a quick attack leading to Justin Kluivert breaking the deadlock after just six minutes.
Ryan Christie started the move, as he cut open the Newcastle defence with an incisive pass through to Antoine Semenyo who was able to find Kluivert in the box with a clever cut back. The Dutchman was able to meet the cross unopposed and he swept a tidy finish into the bottom corner.
Newcastle finally got into the game after 25 minutes as Guimaraes powered home a corner to equalise for the hosts.
It looked like the teams might have gone into the break with the scores level as half time approached but the Cherries had other ideas.
Christie was again involved, as the midfielder stole possession from Guimaraes on the edge of the Newcastle box and with just two passes Kluivert was in again to slide in and give Bournemouth a surprise lead at half time.
Bournemouth began the second half just how they finished the first and they had a third goal on the hour mark, but VAR disallowed the Dango Ouattara finish with the ball clearly going off the pitch during the buildup.
After a very tense second half Bournemouth were finally able to seal the deal in stoppage time, with Kluivert completing his second hattrick this season.
His third goal was by far the best of the afternoon, as the 25-year-old hit a speculative shot from well outside the area leaving Martin Dubravka rooted to the spot and St James’ Park in complete shock.
Milos Kerkez finished off one of Bournemouth’s best performances this season with a tidy finish inside the box.
