Watch moment Anfield truss lift begins as £80m stadium project takes next step

Liverpool's £80m Anfield Road End expansion project has edged closer to completion as the roof truss is being lifted into position on top of the current structure.

Work to lift the truss, which weighs a staggering 300 tonnes, is well underway after the initial scheduled date of Saturday was scrapped due to high-level winds.

Footage sent to the ECHO by 'Mister Drone UK' shows part sof the truss being hoisted into the air by two 600-tonne cranes and then carefully aligned onto multiple 60-tonne pillars, which will keep the truss in place as the remaining stages of the project are completed.

The latest landmark on the build, which is the third redevelopment project to take place under current owners Fenway Sports Group following the Main stand work in 2016 and the AXA Training Centre in 2020, comes 10 months after manager Jurgen Klopp provided the ground-breaking dig at a service last September.

The lifting of the structure shows that work is progressing quickly and in line with the time targets, which means that the grand re-opening of the Anfield Road stand should take place next summer ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The stand, which sits opposite Anfield's famous Kop End, will add an extra 7,000 seats to the stadium's capacity. Taking the total figure in the excess of 61,000.

Speaking last week, Paul Cuttill, vice-president of stadium operations said that the work renovation has undergone during the off-season will become clear to returning fans at the end of the month:

“As the new season is fast approaching, there has been a lot of work completed on the Anfield Road expansion project during the off-season, he said. "Fans will see a huge change when they next visit the stadium.

“The truss lift is always an exciting part of the build programme and is a very carefully managed operation. As it’s so complex, a lot of prep work has been carried out by our construction partner Buckingham to be ready for Tuesday. This is a massive milestone in this ambitious project, which is on track to be completed right on time.”
