Watch Manchester City vs Liverpool for a clash of Premier League titans on Sunday, February 23.
Defending champions City may have already given up on the title race but can they still influence it? Liverpool have stuttered slightly in recent weeks and can't afford to let their foot off the gas, with their lead at the top of the table down to a virtual five points over Arsenal.
City have been all over the place this season but are always dangerous, so despite the discrepancy in the league table, this remains a mouth-watering clash between the top two English sides of the past half-decade.

Man City v Liverpool: Match preview
Man City v Liverpool still retains some lustre as a fixture, but what looked at the start of the season like a key date in the title race diary has lost a little of its edge given the extent to which City are trailing. With a 17-point gap between the sides, if Pep Guardiola’s men were to win it, and then win their game in hand, they’d still be 11 points adrift with 12 games to go.
Even in City’s own heads, the title defence has gone, and they’re more concerned with salvaging Champions League football, having just exited the competition in mid-week before the knockout stages. It was a chastening Wednesday night in the Spanish capital, as City were completely dominated by Real Madrid, losing 3-1 thanks to a Kylian Mbappé hattrick, which made it a 6-3 aggregate defeat over the two legs of the playoff tie.
Liverpool were playing at the same time, in a Premier League fixture crammed in mid-week, and they too failed to find victory. Arne Slot’s men were held to a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa – their second draw in their last three games and their fourth in their last eight. Liverpool have still lost only once all season - to Southampton back in September - but the accumulation of draws is chipping away a little at what looked like an unassailable Premier League lead.
The gap between the Reds and second-placed Arsenal is now eight points, although the Gunners have a game in hand, so it could in theory be seen as five. Given they play each other late in the season in May, Liverpool, who crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Plymouth recently, can’t afford to let go of their momentum completely.
And Man City are certainly not to be underestimated. They’ve had a calamitous campaign, and have looked a shadow of their former all-conquering selves, but they still possess an abundance of talent. Either side of their 5-1 humbling by Arsenal earlier this month they’ve thrashed Ipswich 6-0, swatted Chelsea 3-1, and last time out in the league they beat high-flying Newcastle 4-0.
Defensively, City have been all over the place, but they can still put the ball in the back of the net. Liverpool will be the favourites, but they’ve started to stutter ever so slightly, and they’re faced with a huge game in their hunt of the Premier League crown.
