City’s Woes Continue As Spoils Are Shared With Toffees
With just one win in their last 12 matches across all competitions, reigning champions Manchester City welcomed relegation battlers Everton to the Etihad in the Premier League in Boxing Day’s early kick-off.
City came into the Gameweek 18 clash off the back of three consecutive defeats, losing in succession to Juventus, Manchester United and, last time out, Aston Villa.
Despite all of this, the Cityzens got off to a flying start as they looked to get back to winning ways, with Josko Gvardiol striking the woodwork early on, before Bernardo Silva opened the scoring on the 14 minute mark.
The Portugal international latched onto a beautifully weighted pass from tricky winger Jeremy Doku and flicked his first-time effort beyond Jordan Pickford, into the far corner, to give Pep Guardiola’s side the lead.
Silva could’ve added a second in the 33rd minute, however his outside-of-the-boot strike flew just wide of the post.
Everton, who had struggled to create much during the early stages, struck back through Iliman Ndiaye after 36 minutes. The Senegalese forward got on the end of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s cross and smashed the leveller into the top-right corner.
A frustrated City were gifted a golden opportunity to restore the lead eight minutes into the second period, as they were awarded a penalty after Savinho was brought down by Vitaliy Mykolenko.
Erling Haaland stepped up to the task, but Pickford was equal to it, denying the Norwegian from 12 yards out.
City were unable to find a winner, despite putting plenty of pressure on the visitors, leaving them in sixth place in the Premier League table, while Everton remain in 15th, three points clear of the drop zone.

Manchester City return to action on Sunday with a trip to the East Midlands to take on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City, before welcoming West Ham to the Etihad in Gameweek 20.
As for Everton, they host high-flying Nottingham Forest in their next league outing, which is followed by a long trip down to the south coast to face another high-flying side in Bournemouth.
