WATCH: Lovie Smith recruits new Texans season ticket holders

Lovie Smith believes in the Houston Texans.

That is why he gave his honest input to general manager Nick Caserio throughout the month-long coaching search and also met with the McNair family a few times during the process. The 2021 defensive coordinator and associate head coach wanted what was best for the team.

When the Texans approached Smith about a promotion to the big chair, the 63-year-old from Big Sandy High School off Interstate 20 in East Texas couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

There may be 32 NFL coaching jobs, but there are only two in Smith’s home state, and he relished the chance to coach Houston.

As a part of spreading that enthusiasm, Smith spent his time on Feb. 8 after his introductory press conference recruiting new season ticket holders.

Smith called a fan named “Patrick” from Gilmer, Texas, just 10 miles from where Smith grew up, and convinced him to buy season tickets for the 2022 season.
