Throughout the summer, Lonzo Ball and his tattoo artist, Steve Butcher, have shared updates of Ball’s ever-developing sleeve on his left arm. It quickly became apparent that the tattoos had a common thread. On Tuesday, Ball and Butcher showed off the final piece of images is dedicated to influential African-American figures throughout history.
Ball began the sleeve with Malcolm X and Barack Obama tattoos before adding a Jackie Robinson one. After finishing it off with Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, Butcher added “The Marathon Continues” to the top of the sleeve on his shoulder.
Ball got strong reviews from former teammates and friends on his Instagram alike.
It’ll be interesting if Ball continues to add tattoos to his body and if they continue to have a common theme. With little room left on his arm, it’s unlikely he’ll continue to add tattoos to the sleeve itself but may extend it to other body parts.
