Watch: James Corden teams up with Nicki Minaj as Carpool Karaoke returns after two-year break

James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke made a welcome return on Wednesday night after taking a two-year break due to the pandemic.

Rapper Nicki Minaj, 39, helped kick off proceedings as she joined The Late Late Show host in his SUV to sing along to some of her biggest hits, including Anaconda, Starships and Chun-Li.

She also channelled her inner Adele - complete with British accent - for a rendition of Someone Like You.

Adele appeared on the popular segment back in 2016 where she took on Minaj’s track Monster.

Speaking to Cordon on his chat show earlier this year, Minaj said that seeing Adele impersonate her had “made my day, my year”.

“I probably got a thousand phone calls about that one thing,” she added.

Minaj’s turn on Carpool Karaoke clearly had an impact on people too.

“I was jamming out to see starships along with @NICKIMINAJ during her #NICKICARPOOL. I loved every minute of that #CarpoolKaraoke," wrote one Twitter user.

“Iconic,” declared a second.

While a third remarked: “3rd Time watching #NickiCarpool I’M SOO OBSESSED THIS IS EVERYTHING I NEED.”

Corden had teased the highly-anticipated return of the series at a recent press conference, saying: "It’s felt over the past year - very, very slowly, in one sense or another - like we started to get our show back. But this was, this is obviously a big part of our show – this segment.

"The entire pandemic … there [were] so many things that we couldn’t do, and I think that’s true of every show.

“But for us, our show is very much about getting out there, whether that’s running out into the street and doing musicals in a crosswalk or big taped bits or having all the guests together on a couch at the same time."
