What better time for a pick-six than while your head coach is doing an interview on the preseason broadcast? That’s exactly what Jake Hummel just pulled off against the Raiders.
The Rams linebacker picked off Brian Hoyer on a throw over the middle and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at 10 apiece. McVay was doing a “Coach Cam” interview on the game broadcast, so we got a raw and genuine reaction from the head coach when the play happened.
It was awesome to see McVay so excited for his player as he pulled in the pick and sprinted to the end zone.
“Great job Jake Hummel! That’s a hook player takin’ it to the crib, baby! How about that hook drop? My man Hummel! Captain tonight. Oh man, is that exciting.”

McVay went over and congratulated Hummel after the play, too, showing a lot of support for his guy following the game-changing pick.

Hummel has been all over the field tonight against the Raiders, racking up five tackles and that pick-six in the first half alone.
