Ipswich looked set for their first Premier League win at Portman Road this season on Sunday, but late drama saw Bournemouth steal all three points in added time – watch the full Premier League highlights below.
Bournemouth Shock With Late Comeback
It was Ipswich who took the lead midway through the first half, as Conor Chaplin netted his first Premier League goal to give the hosts an early advantage.
Cameron Burgess of all people found himself at the touchline and he played a smart ball back into the box to assist Chaplin, who made no mistake with a confident finish sweeping his shot past Kepa in net.
The Blues doubled their advantage from a corner in the 26th minute as Burgess rose highest to head home what he thought was the game’s second goal, but VAR disallowed the finish with Liam Delap fouling the goalkeeper in the buildup.
A defensive mixup gave Bournemouth their first chance of the game midway through the first half and as the ball fell to Marcus Tavernier in the box, he hit a bobbling shot which ricocheted just off the post.
The Cherries had more control to start the second half but Ipswich held strong and were able to limit the visitors to almost no chances after they went ahead.
Sammy Szmodics had a chance to give Ipswich a cushion heading into the last 15 minutes, but after being slipped through on goal by Delap he couldn’t convert a one on one and the score remained 1-0.
Ipswich weren’t able to hold on for their second win of the season though and Bournemouth broke the hosts’ hearts with an equaliser just three minutes from full time. Enes Unal was on hand at the back post to pounce on an Ipswich mistake in the box, heading in from just two yards out to level the score with his first goal for the Cherries.
From out of the fire Bournemouth were able to secure all three points deep into added time, as Dango Ouattara capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to smash the ball into the roof of the net and surely secure all three points for the visitors.
