Fire crews in East Kilbride saved precious woodland from destruction on Saturday night, as a huge blaze tore through a building site.
Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles as flames ripped through what appeared to be piping and building materials at Langlands on Greenhills Road at around 9pm.
Scottish Fire and Rescue (SFRS) told Lanarkshire Live that firefighters managed to get the blaze under control and that no one was hurt in the fire.
However, they were unable to determine the cause of the fire at this stage.
One eye-witness posted on a community Facebook page : "Pipes and lorries on fire at Greenhills Road."
Another wrote: "It is quite bad, firefighters can’t get it under control the now."
An East Kilbride resident commented: "Seeing it from Westwood too! Looks bad."
A SFRS spokeswoman told us : “We were alerted at 9.11pm on Saturday, August 6 to reports of a fire in the open on Greenhills Road (Langlands area), East Kilbride.
“Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene.
“Firefighters extinguished the fire and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.
"There were no reported casualties.”
Police Scotland confirmed they were made aware of the incident, but deferred to SFRS for further details.
