Watch: Holidaymaker takes action after passenger stretched 'smelly foot' under his plane seat

A holidaymaker got revenge on a fellow passenger who poked her 'smelly' foot under his seat on a Jet2 flight - by pouring fizzy pop on her sock until she moved. Daniel Green was on a flight to The Algarve, Portugal, last month when 20 minutes into the flight he was repulsed by a strong "cheese" smell.

The 31-year-old checked under his seat to find the stench was coming from a passenger on the row behind who had taken her shoes off and stretched her legs so far her foot encroached his footwell. Baffling footage shows Daniel pouring a couple of drops of Tango fizzy pop onto the 'dirty-looking' sock so she'd move her feet out of his smelling range.

As the liquid soaks into the sock her foot can be seen moving "as if to wonder what happened" and slowly retreat back to its own footwell. Daniel's video has been viewed more than half a million times with users split over whether the stunt was a "great flight hack" or if he should have left the fellow holidaymaker alone.

The dad-of-one has since defended his stunt by claiming he didn't want to embarrass the woman by telling her that her feet smell so thought of another way to 'drop a subtle hint'.

Daniel, from Southport, Merseyside, said: "I just noticed a smell and wondered what it was. It smelt like cheese.

"I bent down to get my chocolate and then I realised it was her feet. The socks looked dirty. It was like she'd not changed her socks in a few days.

"I didn't want to embarrass her by telling her to move her feet because they stink so I was wondering how to tell her without embarrassing her. I locked eyes with a couple next to me and I could tell they smelled it too, so I just did it. I have that mentality.

"I was going to tickle her feet at first but I realised there was nowhere to wash my hands. I'd spilled my can a bit earlier so then I thought she'd probably move them if she got a wet foot.

"The foot movement made me laugh because it was like she was wondering what had happened. She even grabbed her shoe on the way back.

"I didn't turn around because she'd have known I did it on purpose. The fact she didn't bring her foot back means she must have realised something was going on. It worked anyway.

"She could have complained but I'd have just said I spilled my can. I could have done a lot more than that but I just wanted to give her a subtle hint.

"I've seen people say it's disrespectful but if I'd have kissed her feet and asked her to move then there'd still be someone trying to pull it apart."

Daniel was heading on holiday with his family on a morning flight from Manchester Airport when he filmed the video. His post, which is viral on Facebook and TikTok, was captioned 'woman on the plane behind me kept putting her smelly feet under me… then she stopped'.

One Facebook user commented: "Best hack ever." Another said: "What is it with people taking off their shoes on public transport. It's grim." A third joked: "That's why I fly business class."

However some felt Daniel should have left the woman to use the space under his seat or just ask instead of resorting to the bizarre stunt. One said: "You're supposed to put your stuff under the seat in front of you. That's her space." A second said: "Could've just politely asked her to move her feet first."

Jet2 were contacted for comment.
