WATCH: Highlights of Jaguars No. 27 pick Devin Lloyd

The Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t take the chance of waiting until its second-round pick at No. 33 to potentially take Utah linebacker, Devin Lloyd. Instead, the Jaguars quickly made a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to jump in front of the New England Patriots and nabbed him with the 27th overall pick. Jacksonville in return gave Tampa Bay its picks at No. 33, No. 106, and No. 180.

Lloyd is an excellent linebacker to pair with new free agent Foyesade Oluokun who the Jaguars signed this offseason. With the Utes, he finished with 256 tackles and 15.5 sacks, including a career-high of seven last season. Lloyd also made five interceptions in his career to go with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke were hunting for a linebacker to put next to Oluokun after they released Myles Jack earlier this offseason. They decided to release him to create cap space after their free agency splurge.

With the additions of Lloyd and No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker, opposing offenses are becoming quite worrisome about the Jaguars’ front seven.
