Arsenal looked to have completed their comeback against Fulham in the last minute of their game on Sunday, but the Gunners were denied all three points by VAR in the dying seconds – watch the full Premier League highlights below.
Fulham Hold On For A Point
Arsenal were all over Fulham in the first ten minutes, but it was the hosts who took the lead early against the Gunners thanks to a brilliant finish from Raul Jiminez.
The Mexican was sent through on goal by Kenny Tete and despite having a tight angle to work with, Jiminez was able to drive a low finish into the bottom corner despite the efforts of William Saliba and David Raya.
Arsenal continued to dominate the first half but they weren’t able to make their pressure pay and headed down the tunnel at half time 1-0 down, with just one shot on target to speak of.
The visitors finally levelled proceedings just five minutes into the second half, as Arsenal scored yet another corner to continue their remarkable record in the league this season.
Declan Rice whipped another perfect cross in to the back post with Kai Havertz in acres of space and the German nodded back to William Saliba who scored for the second time in five days with a tap in from point blank range.
Chances were few and far between for either side in the second period as Arsenal pushed on for the winner, while Fulham looked to make a stand and protect a hard earned point.
With three points looking out of reach as the game approached the 90th minute Arsenal needed a hero and in the 88th minute they thought they finally had one. Bukayo Saka was on hand to convert Gabriel Martinelli’s cross with the seconds dying out and Arsenal thought they had won the game at the death.
But VAR came to Fulham’s rescue and break Arsenal’s hearts, as Martinelli was ruled to be offside by a matter of inches in the buildup.
WATCH: Fulham 1-1 Arsenal
The draw is a much better result for Fulham than it is for Arsenal, with the Cottagers moving up to 10th in the Premier League table, just four points away from the top four.
Arsenal on the other hand will feel like the draw is a loss, especially after Liverpool’s game was postponed this weekend. Mikel Arteta’s side now trails Liverpool in the title race by six points, but the leaders have a game in hand still.
