WATCH: Former Giants offensive lineman Mitch Petrus dies of heat stroke

The New York Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI team lost a second teammate this month when former offensive lineman Mitch Petrus died of a heat stroke Thursday night.

Petrus was feeling ill before being admitted to the Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock after working outside and in his family’s shop all day. There was a heat advisory in effect for much of the state of Arkansas on Thursday. Petrus, 32, died in the hospital at 10:45 p.m.

The 6’3″, 300-pound offensive guard walked on at the University of Arkansas before garnering All-SEC honors during his junior and senior seasons with the Razorbacks. Petrus was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, he played three seasons in the NFL — two with the Giants, then splitting the third between the Giants, the New England Patriots, and the Tennessee Titans.

Petrus’ teammate on the SB46 team, backup quarterback Jared Lorenzen, died earlier this month.
