Watch former Celtic winger pounce on Champions League howler to strike first blow in Hoops' group

The first goal in the Champions League group involving Celtic has been scored by a former player - Marian Shved.

The Ukrainian winger has joined his ex-club's Group F rivals Shakhtar Donetsk from Belgian side Mechelen and has got his career with his new club off to a flier, albeit with the aid of some horrendous goalkeeping from RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulasci. Shakhtar and the Bundesliga side are contesting the other fixture in a group that also includes Celtic and Real Madrid on matchday one.

Their Hungarian keeper was caught in no man's land way outside his box, eventually getting his feet in a muddle. Shved spotted this as an opportunity to pounce and took the ball off him, rolling it into an empty net to give his side the lead. It's another major moment for the winger after facing a fight to cement his career at the elite level, scoring one more as his side claimed a statement 4-1 win away from home while the Hoops lost 3-0 in Glasgow.

After his form in his homeland, Shved won a move to Celtic Park when Brendan Rodgers was in charge over three years ago, but failed to make an impact and left permanently last summer following three outings.

He impressed in Belgium with Mechelen and forced through a move to a club in his native nation in the transfer window.

There is now a real possibility he could take on Celtic when the pair meet twice in the Champions League between now and the World Cup in Qatar, the first battle coming next week.
