Fashion Sakala was one of the heroes for Zambia as they came from behind to beat Lesotho in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Rangers attacker is away with his country for a double-header with Lesotho as they bid to make the finals of the 2023 tournament, which has been pushed back until January 2024 due to concerns over the temperature in host nation Ivory Coast. Sakala was picked after a resurgence in form under Michael Beale that has seen him score six times since football resumed after the World Cup, including three in his last three games.
Sakala has struck up a partnership with Alfredo Morelos and Zambia were hoping his impressive club form carried over onto the international stage. And so it proved, with the 26-year-old racing past two men before firing in a stunning equaliser after Lesotho had taken the lead in the first half with his side going on to win 3-1.
Highlights of the clash are region-locked for fans in the UK but Zambian sports site TR Sportzm have converted a clip into Gif format and you can watch Sakala's strike above. The win means Zambia have won two of their three games in qualifying and travel to face Lesotho in the return game on Sunday. They then face hosts Ivory Coast in June before their final qualifier with Comoros in September.
