WATCH FA Cup Highlights: Chelsea 5-0 Morecambe

Watch the highlights from Chelsea’s 5-0 victory over Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Chelsea make it through to the next round of the FA Cup with an emphatic 5-0 win against Morecambe, who never really threatened the Premier League side.

The two sides met in the same round of this competition in 2021, where Chelsea won 4-0.

The first half was dominated by Chelsea, and after a few missed chances, they got a penalty because of a handball inside the box.

Christopher Nkunku stepped up to take the spot kick but saw his effort saved by Morecambe goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne.

The deadlock was eventually broken later in the first half when Tosin Adarabioyo took matters into his own hands and scored via a deflection to make it 1-0 at the break.

Unfortunately for Morecambe, the goals were just getting started. After just five minutes into the second half, Nkunku made up for his penalty miss when he poked home Chelsea’s second after it was pinballed in the box.

Then, Adarabioyo added his second, bagging a rare brace with a thunderbolt from outside the box into the left side of the net.

It was made worse for the away side in the 75th minute when Joao Felix struck a low shot from a similar spot to Adarabioyo’s and made it four.

He didn’t have to wait very long for another goal, when two minutes later, he produced the best finish of the game with a curling, dipping effort from the side of the box, which beat Burgoyne.

WATCH: Chelsea 5-0 Morecambe Highlights

Overall, it was a comfortable afternoon for the Blues, and they progress to the next round. It was a valiant effort from Morecambe, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Chelsea’s xG numbers illustrate just how much they dominated, generating 2.45 compared to Morecambe’s 0.48.

Morecambe will turn their attention back to League Two, where they need to start picking up results, sitting in a precarious 23rd position.

Meanwhile, Chelsea advance to the fourth round but return their focus to the Premier League, where they have back-to-back home games coming up, before a trip to Manchester City at the end of January.
