Watch exclusive trailer ahead of new Nottingham Forest film's big release

A new film telling the inspirational story of three Nottingham Forest legends has its world premiere later this month.

And NottinghamshireLive can exclusively reveal a trailer as Local Heroes prepares for its big release, coming just as the current Reds side prepare for their decisive final two games in their bid for Premier League survival. The feature-length documentary relives the tale of European Cup winners and local heroes Viv Anderson, Garry Birtles and Tony Woodcock and how they rose to the top.

The story of the Reds’ glory years under Brian Clough is well-known, but this new film sheds light on a different side of the tale, focusing on how the trio triumphed over adversity to achieve great success. In the documentary, they “recount their rise to fame and the obstacles they faced along the way”.

Local Heroes is also about more than that. It also explores “football’s political and cultural transformation over the years and draws parallels between life as a footballer in the 1970s to life in the footballing world now”.

It is said: “This rousing documentary offers a window into British modern history through the eyes and stories of these unlikely heroes. Sharing their fascinating journey, the trio recount their rise to fame and the obstacles they faced along the way, and how, during a time of economic difficulty, they persevered and prevailed.”

The red-carpet premiere for the film will be held next week in Nottingham. It will then have a limited run in local cinemas from Thursday, May 25, before being released on digital, DVD and Blu-ray from Monday, June 5, courtesy of Miracle Media.

Local Heroes is on Blu-ray, DVD & digital (including Amazon, Sky, Virgin & iTunes) from June 5.
