Celtic hero Neil Lennon has new club Omonia Nicosia on the verge of the Europa League group stage after a stunning 2-0 win in Belgium over KAA Gent.
The former Hoops boss and his new side have a second leg meeting this coming Thursday as they stand just 90 minutes away from a place in the tournament proper and a place in Friday's draw. Two familiar faces to Scottish football fans were on show for Lennon's troops with former Celtic man Adam Matthews starting the game with ex- Rangers and Hibs attacker Brandon Barker named on the bench.
It was the latter who would have a huge say in the first meeting as he came on to score a wonderful second goal for his new club to take a huge advantage into this week's return. The 25-year-old was on hand to get on the end of knock down and fire a half-volley into the top corner of the net to spark wild scenes amongst the travelling away fans in the corner of the stand.
Former Celtic gaffer Lennon made the move to Cyprus earlier this year and landed domestic silverware with his new club and with that secured a crack at European football.
The 51-year-old - who also hand stints in charge of Hibs and Bolton - is no stranger to picking up big results in Europe during his time at Parkhead and now he has a first one on his Omonia CV.
