Eintracht Frankfurt vs Spurs: Match Preview

The pressure is well and truly on the Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, with a huge amount riding on tonight’s second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt. The North London side are enduring a miserable campaign, languishing in 15th place in the Premier League. The Europa League is all they have left to play for this term, and indeed represents their only path to European football next season, with the Europa League winner qualifying for the Champions League.

Spurs were the favourites for this tie but they didn’t manage to gain an advantage on home soil in the first leg, with last week’s clash ending 1-1.

Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring for Frankfurt after just six minutes, putting Spurs well and truly on the back foot. They responded well, equalising through a Pedro Porro backheel 20 minutes later and going on to dominate the attacking chances. However, they could not find the net again, partly due to a string of saves from the Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos.

Now, Spurs need to come away with a win from Frankfurt’s Waldstadion, against a strong side who are currently the ‘best of the rest’ behind the Germans Bundesliga’s top sides, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

It should be a gripping contest, and one that’s make or break for Spurs’ season, and perhaps Postecoglou’s future.
