Watch: Donald Trump praises King Charles as 'really good person'

Donald Trump praised King Charles as a “really good person” in newly released footage.

In the clip, the US President-elect is seen praising the Royal Family and leafing through images of him alongside the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The footage was released as part of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s docu-series Art of The Surge, and was filmed between Mr Trump’s campaign rallies.

Pointing to an image of him and his wife Melania alongside the Queen, he says: “This is with Queen Elizabeth, who was fantastic, by the way.”

“These images - I mean, who has images like this? And these were relationships, too.”

Mr Trump then focuses on an image of him and his wife Melania with Charles and Camilla.

“It’s a piece of history at the highest level,” he says.

“Hopefully he’s going to be well, because he’s a really good person. Camilla is fantastic. You get to know them so well.”

The royal family plays a key part in the UK-US special relationship and Mr Trump has previously voiced his love of the monarchy.

Mr Trump received a grand state visit to the UK in 2019, hosted by the Queen, making it unlikely he will be invited to make a second one.

He was treated to a full programme of pomp and pageantry, with a ceremonial welcome and a glittering ballroom banquet at Buckingham Palace.

In 2018, Mr Trump joined the Queen for tea at Windsor Castle.

As they inspected a Guard of Honour, the president walked along before standing still in front of the Queen, meaning she had to navigate her way around him so they could walk side by side.

Mr Trump and the King have met several times, although not since Charles acceded to the throne in 2022, with Mr Trump’s first term as American leader ending in 2021.

The pair appear to disagree on climate issues, with Mr Trump admitting that the monarch is “a little bit more into environmental restriction than I am”.

The president-elect has previously labelled climate change a hoax, while the King is a passionate campaigner for the environment.
