Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels arrived for his first NFL start against the New York Jets in the preseason opener wearing a Doug Williams jersey.
That good karma also carried over onto the field as the Commanders began the game on offense. Unfortunately, Washington would be without its top three offensive tackles for the game.
That didn’t phase Daniels. While his first NFL throw was off-target, his second NFL passing attempt could not have gone any better.
Facing a third-and-6 on his first NFL drive, Daniels dropped back and fired toward the right sideline, finding wide receiver Dyami Brown for a 42-yard gain.
It’s a beauty.

Later on the drive, Daniels ran it in for the touchdown, giving the Commanders a 7-0 lead. That would be it for him on the day, and it could not have gone any better for the rookie quarterback.
Daniels and Brown have shown a nice connection on the deep ball throughout training camp, and Brown appears rejuvenated.
