WATCH: Coatbridge school pupils dance with First Minister at community and carers showcase event

Coatbridge school pupils got to dance with the First Minister as they met with her at a community showcase event.

The Buchanan High youngsters showed off their finest moves at the Glenboig Life Centre as Nicola Sturgeon came along to discuss 'The Promise' initiative, which aims to give a better deal to all youths not living with their parents but with carers.

The fleet-footed youngsters from the additional support needs secondary school involved in the dancing delight were Lorna Binnie, Darren Henderson, Isla Richardson, Jamie Cullen, Ryan Kearney and James Armstrong.

Ms Sturgeon met with care experienced youngsters to hear what this year's theme of community meant to them before copying their TikTok dance moves, when she admitted she had "no idea what she was doing".

The SNP leader wore a purple suit while giving the routine her best shot which left the youngsters beaming with excitement.

One of the pupils then revealed the a video taken of the dance, leaving the First Minister in stitches at the final result.

A spokesperson for Buchanan High School told Lanarkshire Live : "Our pupils had a great time dancing with the First Minister.

"It was an honour for them to meet Ms Sturgeon and she was really nice and friendly, taking the time to speak with everyone.

"Events like this are very important to highlight youngsters living with carers, and the support that both need.

"Community is really vital too and we are lucky to share a great bond with our pupils' parents and families.

"We'd like to thank the First Minister for chatting with our pupils - and giving their dance her best shot!"
