Chris Eubank Jr has shared footage of his last-ditch efforts to make weight for his showdown with Conor Benn on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old failed to come in under the 160lbs limit at Friday’s official weigh-in, as he was hit with a $500,000 fine.
Eubank, who arrived for the weigh-in more than an hour after Conor Benn tipped the scales at 156.4lbs, had two attempts at making weight, with the second of those seeing him just half an ounce over.
That was despite a visit to the hotel gym to try and sweat off the final bit of weight, while he was also seen lying on the floor in a tight bag and covered with towels.
Eubank posted those videos on social media with the caption: “Pain is temporary… Glory is forever.”
In response, Benn replied: “Christopher who are you trying to fool and get sympathy from, I’m coming UP to your weight a weight you’ve made your last 3 fights and most of your career !
“It’s like you’re looking for excuses already? First time you’ve ever missed weight and first time you’ve ever posted a weight cut.”
Both fighters are set to take part in a ceremonial weigh-in on Friday evening, but the focus for Eubank will now be on ensuring he does not fall foul of the rehydration clause.
Both Eubank and Benn will return to the scales on Saturday morning at around 8am and neither fighter can weigh in at more than 170lbs, or they will receive a significant fine.
That is unlikely to be an issue for Benn, who was well inside the limit on Friday, but it means Eubank’s efforts to refuel and rehydrate will be limited.
Eubank, who has fought at 168lbs for much of his career, has revealed he normally puts on around 14lbs after a weigh-in.
It has been an expensive build-up to the bout for Eubank, who was fined £100,000 for slapping Benn with an egg at a news conference in February.
He also gave a total of £50,000 to boxers who had been due to fight on the cancelled 2022 card, when the event was called off at the last minute after it emerged Benn had failed two voluntary drugs tests.
