Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice didn’t need much time to make an impact for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. He caught the first touchdown of his NFL career on the team’s second offensive drive, which drew the Chiefs within one point of tying the game.

Rice dropped a pass earlier in the drive but redeemed himself by finding the soft spot in the Detroit Lions’ coverage near the goal line. Plays like this are what warranted his selection by Kansas City in the second round of April’s draft.
Expect Rice and the Chiefs’ other receivers to get more looks later in this game as Kansas City adjusts to life without Travis Kelce, who has traditionally been one of the team’s top red zone targets.
Patrick Mahomes will need all the help he can get to continue dissecting Detroit’s talented defense, and could more plays like this to help lift the Chiefs to a Week 1 victory.
