The Kansas City Chiefs have their mic’d up choices down to a science.
In the Week 10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chiefs chose DE Carlos Dunlap, who recorded a half-sack in the game bringing his total to 100 career sacks. He became the 41st NFL player to ever reach 100 career sacks and the eighth active player to reach the feat.
Kicking off the game, you can see Dunlap’s energy. He was jumping up and down during the national anthem and saluted the flyover. That energy continued throughout the game.
It didn’t take long for Dunlap to record the half-sack he needed. Willie Gay Jr. was one of the first to congratulate Dunlap on his way to the sideline.
“Congratulations, dog,” he shouted.
Then came Chris Jones.
“Congratulations, man,” he said.
Then came Darius Harris, Derrick Nnadi and all of his teammates surrounding him on the sidelines, jumping up and down to celebrate his incredible achievement.
Later in the game, when Khalen Saunders recorded a sack against Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, Dunlap was on the sideline. You can see how hyped he was for his teammate as he shouted his name over and over.
A running back later runs right in Dunlap’s lap.
“That’s ain’t going to work bro,” Dunlap said.
After the game was over, he was congratulated by more of his teammates and even some of the opposing players and coaching staff.
He told KSHB’s Aaron Ladd after the game, “Getting over that 100 mark is a huge thing. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. It was very cool to celebrate with my teammates and to share it with Chris Jones. He’s going to get his 100.”
Dunlap might be onto something there. In his seventh season in the NFL at 28 years old, Chris Jones is more than halfway there with 56.5 career sacks.
