WATCH: Chants of 'Shami, Shami' as crowd celebrates Mohammed Shami's five-wicket comeback

NEW DELHI: The crowd in Dharamsala erupted in joy and started chanting 'Shami, Shami' after the star India pacer Mohammed Shami claimed a five-wicket haul to restrict New Zealand to 273 runs in the ICC World Cup match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday.

Shami (5/54) was the pick of the bowlers, and the 33-year-old was adjudged 'Man of the Match' for his stupendous bowling show.

After India bowled New Zealand out, the entire crowd in Dharamsala started chanting 'Shami Shami'.

Introduced into the attack in the ninth over, Shami struck with his first ball of the tournament by removing Will Young and went on to add four more wickets to his name.

Apart from Young, Shami dismissed Rachin Ravindra (75), Daryl Mitchell (130), Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0).

"When you come back after a long time to the XI, it is important to get confidence early. That first game helped me get that confidence. It's not too hard (waiting by the sidelines) if your team is doing well. They are your teammates and if they are doing well, then you should be supporting them. If it (being benched) is in the team's interest, I'm okay with it," Shami said after the match.

Shami became the first Indian to bag two five-wicket hauls in the history of the ODI World Cup. The 33-year-old picked his first five-wicket haul against England in the 2019 World Cup.
