A video has shown how five lions managed to escape their enclosure at a zoo in Sydney.
The film shows the pack working at a hole in the bottom of a fence in Taronga Zoo on November 2 before getting out, an event which led to a site evacuation and police probe.
The big cats also got past a secondary fence, designed to protect the public. Further video, released this week, appears to show the lions then trying to find a way back to their enclosure.
Cubs Luzuko, Zuri, Khari, Malika and father Ato all escaped, while the mother Maya remained behind. The zoo said the five escapees remained calm before attempting to return as Maya called out to them.
“The five lions calmly investigated within metres of their main exhibit, before actively trying to find their way back under the fence as lioness Maya and keepers began calling for them,” a statement from Taronga Zoo said.
