Mbeumo and Wissa Score As Bees Sting Magpies In Thriller
Winless in three, Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United side headed to the English capital to take on Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with the Bees coming into the clash off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Despite their poor form on the road thus far this term, Thomas Frank’s side boast a strong home record, and they were quick to display that, opening the scoring after just eight minutes courtesy of Bryan Mbeumo.
Just three minutes later, a clinical finish from Alexander Isak drew the visitors level – his sixth direct goal involvement in his last six league appearances – but it wasn’t long before the Bees reclaimed their lead.
Yoane Wissa was on hand to curl home his side’s second of the afternoon after the Magpies gave the ball away cheaply in midfield, but just four minutes later, Harvey Barnes restored the parity in what was a crazy first half of football.
Brentford took the lead for a third time in the 56th minute as Mark Flekken’s long-range free-kick somehow found its way to Nathan Collins, with the Irishman making no mistake in slotting past Nick Pope on his left foot.
Kevin Schade, who memorably scored a hat-trick against Leicester at the end of November, got in on the act late on, ensuring all three points for the hosts with a lovely dinked finish over Pope just shy of the 90-minute mark.
The Bees move up to sixth place in the English top-flight table with the win, while Newcastle drop down to 12th.

Brentford return to Premier League action next Sunday with a trip to Stamford Bridge to take on in-form Chelsea, before heading up to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle, once again, in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
As for the Magpies, they host Leicester in the league next Saturday prior to the Bees’ visit in the cup.
