Watch the highlights from Bournemouth’s well-earned 1-0 victory over Tottenham on Thursday night.
Bournemouth leapfrog Tottenham to go ninth in the Premier League table after a 1-0 home win against the London side – but it could’ve easily been more.
Spurs started the game strongly and were almost rewarded when Dominic Solanke went through on goal, but the former Cherries striker skied his opportunity over the bar.
The visitors were punished shortly after, when Dean Huijsen arrived at the back post to meet Marcus Tavernier’s corner. The 19-year-old centre-back headed it past Fraser Forster to give the home side the lead after 20 minutes.
From that point on, Bournemouth controlled the game and had a second goal disallowed before the break when Tavernier was flagged offside.
Tottenham came out into the second half with the same team and the same lacklustre performance as the first 45.
Bournemouth continued to press forward and had another goal chalked off by VAR – this time Evanilson being caught offside.
Heung-min Son came on for Spurs to try and change his side’s fortunes and had a goal disallowed himself after trailing offside.
The home team could’ve regretted their missed chances, but Spurs never really looked like threatening Kepa in goal and deservedly lost the game.
Alan Shearer, who was on commentary for Amazon Prime’s broadcast of the game, described Spurs’ performance as ‘terrible’, criticising the players’ lack of fight.
WATCH: Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham Highlights
Bournemouth generated a staggering xG of over 3.31 compared to Spurs’ 0.58 xG, highlighting just how poor Ange Postecoglou’s side were.
They’ll have to put that behind them and massively improve for Sunday’s huge London Derby against Chelsea, who are in a hot streak of form themselves.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth travel to Ipswich, who have only managed one win since their promotion to the Premier League. Their only win? Spurs, away.
