Ferran Torres At The Double As Blaugrana Prevail In Thriller
Hansi Flick returned to his native Germany on Wednesday night as he and his Barcelona side looked to overcome Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park on MD6 of the Champions League league phase.
A largely uneventful first-half meant that the pair went into the interval level at 0-0, but the action would soon come, with five goals being scored during the second period.
In-form Brazilian attacker Raphinha beat the hosts’ offside trap for the opener, latching onto Dani Olmo’s through ball before slotting home with a lovely finish beyond the onlooking Gregor Kobel.
Just eight minutes later though, Serhou Guirassy restored the parity from the penalty spot.
Second-half substitute Ferran Torres would soon get in on the action, putting Barca back in front with a tap-in from a rebound, but Guirassy was on hand to draw Dortmund level once again on the 78-minute mark.
Some excellent work from Lamine Yamal in the 85th minute split the Dortmund defence, enabling him to put Torres in on goal, and the Spaniard took his time to pick his spot and swept his effort beyond Kobel to seal all three points.
Barca move up to second place in the league phase table with the victory, just three points behind leaders Liverpool, whilst Dortmund fall out of the top eight, down to ninth place in the table, into the playoff positions.
